Ki Speer, MSW, RSW is known for her passion for social justice, infectious energy, warmth, professionalism, and playfulness that make it easy to connect and begin to move forward in a positive light.
For over 15 years, she has enjoyed her work with a diverse population of youth, adults and families in supportive and therapeutic roles. A clinically-trained therapist with background in Social Work, Ki (pronounced “Kai”) currently specializes in progressive collaborative, person-centered, attachment-oriented approaches to therapy; as well as healing responses to trauma and mental illness. These include working with the body alongside the mind, with research-based therapies that are grounded in neuroscience and interpersonal neurobiology, such as Sensorimotor Psychotherapy, Neurofeedback and Synergetic Play Therapy. Ki is honoured to walk alongside her clients with gentle, intentional support as they explore, heal and grow from their experiences.
Ki created Brighteyes Therapy in effort to make progressive therapies more known and accessible to people who could benefit in her communities. After working for 10 years within the public system, she felt frustrated that a seemingly limited range of effective counselling options were being offered to marginalized citizens and families. Through the Brighteyes Therapy network, subsidy programs and outreach services, she and her colleagues aim to help bridge the gap.
Collaboration, Community and Advocacy are values at the heart of Ki’s work. Therefore, she balances her clinical work with strong participation in local non-profit agencies, such as the BC Schizophrenia Society; where, for over 10 years, she has been providing front-line support, resources and education to families affected by mental illness. Building also on her previous years’ experience as a community-based Youth and Family Development Worker (Purpose Society in New Westminster), Ki continues to bring the spirit and practical application social work advocacy and support to her clients who are navigating complex social and healthcare systems.
